Newcastle’s injury problems are well documented at the moment and sadly for all concerned there was worse news to come today as it emerged that midfielder Jack Colback will miss the club’s match against Arsenal on Saturday. The Tyneside club are already missing the likes of Fabricio Coloccini, Siem de Jong and Rolando Aarons through injury, while Papiss Cisse is out through suspension, but it was thought that Colback would feature. The former Sunderland man has become an integral part of the team this season since moving on a free during the summer and news of his injury will no doubt upset fans.
The news broke this morning after the midfielder was left exposed while walking from his car to the club’s training ground entrance during the height of this morning’s solar eclipse. It has been reported that he suffered second degree burns to the face and forearms. Though people are commonly told not to look directly at a solar eclipse, it’s almost unheard of that they’d cause skin damage. However, due to his pale skin tone and freckly appearance, Colback – who looks lie an early gen Pro Evo rendition of Paul Scholes – was severely hurt despite only being out in the sun for a matter of seconds.
His manager John Carver will no doubt be frustrated with the news as his injury list just seems to grow and grow but even he will be able to appreciate that on occasion accidents do happen. Thankfully for Carver, Colback and Newcastle, they don’t have to worry about it happening again – the UK won’t see a solar eclipse of this kind until 2090, at which point we’ll all be dead.
