Dani Alves is a man in demand, if the gossip pages of every football website in Spain and beyond are to be believed. The Brazilian right back is out of contract in the summer after seven seasons at the Camp Nou. There have been overtures from several of Europe’s top clubs, including the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, while just last week reports emerged that he was in “advanced negotiations” with a major side.

There was a twist in the tale today however as it emerged that Alves’ agent Dinorah Santana has informed her client that he must begin dressing like a human being if he wants to earn that last big European contract he so desperately yearns. “It was funny at first but Dani is a grown man. He turns 32 in May and has to stop dressing like some kind of alien man. At first it was hilarious when we saw photos of him in the paper but if he wants to be taken seriously he has to change,” said the player’s ex-wife and current agent.

Alves has long been known for his, ahem, extravagant dress sense and stands out even in a squad that contains the colourful Neymar and once included Alex “Systeme Tchakap” Song. His flowing pantaloons and sleeveless shirts have become as synonymous with the player as his lung-busting runs and precise crosses used to be. He’s a known lover of fashion but with Europe’s top clubs taking heed he’ll soon have to decide whether he either wants a nice fat contract, or remain looking like he’s from the near future.
