Liverpool set to continue believing they’re competing with Man Utd over target Depay

According to today’s newspaper gossip columns, Liverpool Football Club are set to continue to believe that they’ll rival rivals Manchester United for the signature of young Dutch pup Memphis Depay. It has even be suggested that their delusions may extend into the summer transfer window, should it get that far.

Depay – unusually cocky for a young, superbly buff Dutch starlet – is expected to be as popular as that kid with a trampoline and/or over the ground pool this summer after excelling in the Dutch league with PSV, who won the title for the first time in seven years. He has surprised people with his return of 20 goals in 27 games from a wide position.

It is thought that Brendan Rodgers will look to spout various football clichés and marketing phrases in an attempt to convince himself and Depay that he might come to Anfield – expected to be without Champions League football next season after a brief return to the competition.

Though United are allegedly in pole position for the 21 year old Dutch international, PSG are also interested. Our sources though have told us that Liverpool will pull out all the stops to make it seem that the attempted signing was ever credible or realistic.

Whether or not Brendan Rodgers plans to use this future failed signing as an excuse for next season’s under-performance remains to be seen.
