Wayne Rooney has expressed his excitement at having the opportunity to not influence his side’s play away from the pitch after being left out of the matchday squad for his side’s upcoming game.
The Manchester United captain has been absent from training since returning from international duty and has welcomed the chance to fulfill his usual task of not contributing anything of note from the comfort of his home rather than on the field.
“I can’t wait. It’ll be nice to have a change of scenery while still being able to contribute the same amount as usual,” said the 30 year old, adding that he hopes his lay off will freshen him up to get back to debilitating his team’s progress from the inside.
“I’d obviously love to be out there not doing much in person. As a pro you always want to be out there amongst it barely getting involved, but I’ve got to be patient and remain confident I’ll get the chance to stifle things again quite soon.”
At press time, Rooney was said to have been distracting himself from thoughts about the game by getting in his wife’s way while she ran errands.
