Just hours after being confirmed as Valencia’s head coach until the end of the season, Gary Neville has revealed that he has contacted former Manchester United manager David Moyes to ensure the Scot doesn’t try to offer him advice.
Neville was named as coach of the Spanish side on December 2, a decision which shocked many in football, and the former Sky Sports pundit has admitted that he was immediately on the phone to recently-sacked Real Sociedad boss in a bid to eliminate any chance of him trying to pass information about the country onto him.
“When you have an opportunity like this, you have to be willing to swallow your pride and accept that people who have that experience can help you. David however is certainly not one of those people so I had to nip that in the bud as soon as I knew,” said the former Manchester United right back, adding that he would not hesitate to block any calls from Moyes whenever he needed to do so.
“I’ve got a big job on my hands and I didn’t hesitate to ring David up to make sure he doesn’t try to pollute my mind with whatever he thinks he knows.”
At press time, Neville was preparing for his new job by helping his brother Phil, already contracted to the club, learn Spanish.
