Liverpool have announced today that each new season ticket distributed for the 2016/17 campaign will come engraved with a specially personalised taunt.
The Anfield club were criticised by supporters’ groups after it emerged they would be increasing the prices of a number of ticket options, with some season tickets costing more than £1,000.
In response to the uproar, the club revealed that the personalised taunts are being introduced to prove to fans that they value their willingness to cough up as much cash as the club desires.
“We want our fans to know that we’re not disrespecting as numbers or mere figures on a page but as living, breathing people that we couldn’t care less about,” said chief executive Ian Ayre, adding that each and every fans’ wallet is valued.
“For people with glasses the taunt might say ‘You speccy twat’ or for older fans, ‘We can’t believe you continue to give us your money’. It’s just one of many ways we want to show fans that we are listening to and disregarding their concerns.”
At press time, Ayre ensured fans that the club would be introducing further projects in future, such as audio of someone laughing at them every time they pass through the stadium’s turnstiles.
