Saying that he could scarcely believe it when he heard the news, Mike Dean has today revealed that he is a “little disappointed” to not be shortlisted for the Player of the Year awards
Speaking after the release of the awards shortlist today, the referee expressed his anger at yet again being overlooked.
“Despite overwhelming public support for my nomination, the powers that be have yet again ignored my obvious credentials. As disappointed as I am, I’m not surprised. Stars always face haters like this,” said the 47-year-old, adding that his performances this season had easily outshone the majority of the players taking part.
“But in spite of my annoyance, I’m not in it for accolades. The glint in the eyes of young children when I enter the pitch, the starstruck look on the players’ faces when I walk over to them; that’s enough for me.”
