Saying that as a fan one must savour these rare moments when they come along, a Liverpool fan today expressed his excitement at getting to talk about Istanbul every day for the next week ahead of the club’s Europa League final.
Jurgen Klopp’s side face off against holders Sevilla in Basel on May 18, leaving 27-year-old Lee Cotswold giddy with anticipation at the prospect of getting a full five days to talk in depth about the club’s legendary victory over AC Milan in 2005.
“As a fan you live for these moments. There are lots of ups and downs being a Reds supporter but when you have this chance you have to take it,” said the 27-year-old, adding that he had already prepared various topics about that night in 2005 which he plans to drop into most if not all conversations.
“As much as I’d ideally discuss Istanbul every day, common human behaviour seems to dictate that this is unacceptable, so it’s a real pleasure to do it for the next few days without embarrassment.”
At press time, Cotswold was informing a colleague that, given how similar both sides’ domestic seasons panned out, Klopp’s team find themselves in a near identical position to that of 2005.
