“I’ve been working with Mum all week and I’m feeling good,” said the embarrassed 31-year-old.

Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton was reportedly left mortified today after accidentally calling his car “Mum” during a post-practice interview.

The British superstar, currently second in this season’s rankings behind Mercedes teammate Niko Rosberg, was finishing up an interview ahead of this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix when the major faux pas occurred.

“At the moment I’m behind Niko but I’m always confident in my own ability. I’ve been working with Mum all week and I’m feeling good,” said the 31-year-old, who sources say immediately realised his error, interrupting the interviewer to stress that he didn’t mean to call the car “Mum” and that he knows it is just a car and not actually his mother.

The embarrassing incident is just the latest in a string of humiliating events to befall the former McLaren driver, following his inability to remember the word “car” earlier this month.

At press time, Hamilton’s preparations for the weekend’s race were reportedly disrupted, with the racer avoiding all contact with his car out of embarrassment.
