Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is not worried about Arsenal’s position in their Champions League group and has urged fans to feel the same, reminding them that they’re just going to be eliminated by Barcelona or Bayern Munich either way.
Speaking after his side’s 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain left his side likely to finish runners up in their Champions League group for the fourth consecutive year, the relaxed French manager urged fans to be mindful of the fact that either the Bavarian or Catalan giants would knock them out regardless of where they finish.
“Look, of course it would preferable to finish top of our group, but this is football. I have been at this club long enough to not become stressed about things such as this. People may say that first is better but we must be calm and remember that regardless of the final position, we’re going to get dumped out by either Barcelona or Bayern,” said Wenger, adding that fans were just “getting themselves worked up” if they got too worried about something which is out of all of their hands.
“One of them is going to knock us out, we might play well and we might not, but it’s going to happen. Then this is all going to start again and I’m going to be right back here saying the same thing to you.”
At press time, Wenger appealed to fans to remember that no matter how bad it gets, at least they’re not Spurs.
