Carlos Tevez set to make emotional return to boyhood club Shanghai Shenhua


“I feel lucky to have had this opportunity to come home,” said Tevez ahead of his return to Shanghai Shenhua.

Describing it as an ambition that he has long dream of, an emotional Carlos Tevez today prepared to make his long-awaited return to his boyhood club Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.

Speaking ahead of the confirmation of the deal, which will see him depart Boca Juniors and join the Chinese club on weekly wages reported to be worth close to $760,000, the Argentine striker revealed his profound relief at finally having the opportunity to come back to the club where it all began for him.

“This is a beautiful moment for me. Since I moved to Corinthians and then to Europe I have always dreamed of returning to Shanghai Greenland Shenhua. Finally, I have realised that dream and I am at peace,” said the former Manchester United and City forward. “You cannot dictate what the heart wants, I feel lucky to have had this opportunity to come home.”

Throughout his career, Tevez has made no secret of his desire to return to Shanghai, often speaking with affection of his love for the crowd at the Hongkou Football Stadium, as well as his deep hatred for city rivals Shanghai International Port Group Football Club.
