Ryan Giggs’ application for the vacant manager’s position at Sunderland is just the sentence “I am Ryan Giggs” repeated 10 times, according to sources at the Wearside club.
According to sources at the recently-relegated side, club officials had been excited at the prospect of the Welshman applying to take over from David Moyes, before being left slightly underwhelmed at the contents of his resume.
“Ryan is a huge name in football and obviously had a remarkable career at Manchester United. So when we saw his application was literally just the sentence ‘I am Ryan Giggs’ repeated over and over and over we were a little confused,” said one club source of the application which also contained a photo of Giggs holding the Champions League, adding that while they are impressed by Giggs’ name, they would’ve appreciated something more than just several repetitions of it, without even a greeting or any form of contact details.
“You know, Ryan has a lot of experience in world class football. We were expecting something with at least a list of his coaching badges and tactical preference. Maybe he’s holding back a little bit, waiting to blow us away at an interview with some exciting ideas. Yeah, that’s probably it.”
At press time, Giggs stood by his application, insisting that he is Ryan Giggs and that that alone should be enough for Sunderland’s hierarchy to make a decision.
He also added that his interview plan would be similar to his application, in that it would be little more than a 40-minute presentation with his name flashing constantly on ascreen.
