Describing it as a “crying shame” that fans will be deprived of watching their favourite stars next summer, a football fan today admitted that the upcoming World Cup will just not be the same without Jozy Altidore, Manolo Gabbiadini and Davy Klaassen.
Speaking after Sweden’s qualification confirmed the elimination of the United States, the Netherlands and Italy from the world’s premier international tournament, England supporter Danny Ruben stated that he will struggle to enjoy the competition without the stellar talents of the Toronto, Southampton and Everton players.
“The World Cup is supposed to be about watching the best players on the planet face off, and it usually is exactly that. However, without the United States, Italy and the Netherlands we are being deprived of watching elite talent compete against each other,” said Ruben this afternoon, adding that his annoyance was further compounded by the fact that Ryan Babel, Matteo Darmian and DeAndre Yedlin will not be gracing the tournament either.
“I understand that qualification is difficult, and is by far the fairest way of selecting teams to take part, but when it leads to the likes of Lynden Gooch, Davy Propper and Eder not playing on the biggest stage you simply have to question it.”
